Designed for the community as a public passage connecting Molenbeek and the Canal, AMAL AMJAHID optimises land use through the spectacular stacking of 6 functions, voids, and platforms on a small footprint. The structure allows for maximum flexibility over the 5 levels: 2 concrete walls support 4 dismantable trusses, which were transported by water.

Located in an architectural conservation area the contemporary architecture successfully integrates into the sensitive context not only in terms of its scale but also in its expression and brickwork detailing influenced by the surrounding Victorian architecture.

By saving a historic building and turning it into an art gallery, we have introduced a solution that makes art more democratic. By rotating the walls in an unusual way, it goes outside the building. We transformed the space around the gallery, which had previously been contaminated, into a biodiverse art park for the benefit of local residents.
